The service is fast and polite, drink prices are good for the area, and the food is quite good. We'll start with the good. The ham croquettes are quite tasty, with a wonderful sauce with a taste of horseradish. The French onion soup was amazing. The burger is among the best steakhouse style burgers in the city. It has a distinct dry aged flavor, and is perfectly juicy. The weakest dish of the day was the prime rib beef on weck, it was advertised as being medium rare towards medium, it came cooked a heavy medium, if not well done, and was only ok.
First of all, believe the hype. Second of all, go make your reservation now. Everything from appetizers to coffee and dessert were delicious. The burger is the best burger that I've ever had. It's been 4 days since I went and I still haven't thought of a better one. I usually have a doggy bag but this whole meal was gone from the table. I love that they kept the old tavern style and haven't updated it. I hope they never do. Super friendly staff. I went on the hottest day of the year so the only complaint was the AC didn't reach all of the tables but that won't keep me from returning. Tiny chairs, too, so you might get a little uncomfortable if you have a bad back. I definitely want to go back soon.
Really good burger, but not sure it lives up to the hype (or the price point). I prefer the burger at PL's.
It's a cute small space. The food was good, I really enjoyed the prawns. The roasted chicken lacked a little in salt but I would order it again. I wasn't impressed with the service but I didn't have a negative experience either. I observed the staff accommodating guests with larger parties and try to seat people without reservations. My waiter was a little distant but overall I enjoyed the restaurant and would return.
Was lucky enough to get a reservation day of for 3 @ 930 outside, Which worked out great because the weather and outdoor ambiance was great, Some good tunes and nice lighting with a nice warm evening breeze made for a great experience. Our server was not the Best/ friendliest and lacked a little in every aspect, however the food was excellent and I will return Burger was top 3. It was a little heavy handed on the black pepper which I would omit next time if possible. Not sure if this is how they always come but the amount was a bit intense for all 3 of us.. The bun they use excellent, maybe house made? Fries which menu says "frites" which they are not, are actually called cottage fries which are more of a cross between crinkle cut potato chips and French fries were good but not very crispy. Some other things on the menu sound really good but they are well known for the burger. We had a shrimp cocktail starter which was excellent and a great with 12 shrimp for $18.
Must try hit list - loved my burger and the way it was cooked. Great service and ambience. It is a bit difficult to get to so make sure you map your time before you walk in or have a reservation. Lunch is my recommendation here!
2nd time back and even better than the first. Food and drinks all top notch and evident by the long reservation list. This time I booked a week and half ahead so each day leading up, I was salivating at the thought of sinking my mouth into their signature burger. Red Hook Tavern is no doubt a favorite of mine and will be back over and over.
Wanted to give this place a try after being highly recommended by a friend. The decision was last minute so we were unable to get a reservation in advance. Decided to try my luck with walking in and arrived 30 minutes before it opened. There were already people gathering around when we arrived, but I had hope as we were the 4th party in line. Luckily, we were able to get bar seats once they opened and started letting people in. Of course I had to get the Dry-Aged Cheeseburger to see what all the hype was about. I asked for medium rare as that's what I always get. However, the patty was a bit more rare than I would've preferred. Because it was so rare, the middle of the burger was mushy. The outer parts of the patty were more cooked and much more enjoyable so I definitely see potential if I had gotten medium instead of medium rare. The burger was BEEFY! The dry aging process brought out an intense beef flavor. My partner got the cavatelli, which was good but nothing too memorable.
Our friend said this was one of the best burger she's had so naturally I had to verify the accuracy of such a bold statement. When we tried to make a reservation for Saturday, they were all booked out. We decided to tempt fate and trek over for walk-in. We got there 30 minutes before they opened for the evening and there was already a line! This must mean it's good right? 5 comes, and they start walking people in. Luckily, since we were 4th in line, we got seated in 15 minutes at the 2 seats by the window. The person handling the check-ins was very friendly and so was the staff inside. We got to ordering. We got the burger and cavatelli. The staff warned us there may be a 20 minute wait for our entrees but we were fine. The cavatelli came first and it was a good start to warm you up from the unusually chilly April we're experiencing. The texture was chewy and the sauces tasty. There were some pepper flakes that kicked and kicked my body heat up as well. We get the burger and it is THICCC. Probably one of the thickest I've seen smothered with that cheesy goodness. The burgers do automatically come medium rare and some may not like the texture (I loved it). It was so juicy and flavorful and the cottage fries paired well with it. I would say it's definitely worth to come for the burger. Try to make a reservation because from what it seemed, if you're not the first 8-10 parties in line, you may not get a seat.
Red Hook Tavern has one of the tastiest burgers I have ever had and that's just what I wanted to say. Made reservations and had this place for dinner and everything that we had was just fantastic. We were blown away at how tasty, and juicy this dry-aged burger was. I know most people wouldn't talk about a burger but I think this place got it down. Not saying they don't make a mean Wedge salad as well. We also had some shrimp cocktails and some tasty mussels filled with some magic sauce which is also a must-order. If you are ever in Brooklyn you got to make a reservation to Red Hook Tavern. The service was perfect and even though the place was packed our meal went off without a hitch!
